These graphics represent the various actions you might wish to carry out such as ripping tracks, equalising sounds and cutting tracks. For novices, the cutting and editing is particularly easy as it allows you to do everything in visual form. In terms of editing, this means Delete, Cut, Copy, Paste, Paste From File, Mix, Mix From File and apply different effects i.e. Amplify, Delay, Equalizer, Fade, Flanger, Invert, Normalize, Reverse, MultiTapDelay, Silence, Stretch, Vibrato, Echo and Chorus.

This is hardly the most original music editor you’ll ever use but it will have some limited appeal for beginners.

There are more and more portable versions of applications available everyday, meaning most people could actually do most of their work on any PC, and running everything they need from their pen drive.

CodySafe is basically a management application, which gives you a little pop up window above the system tray in Windows. In the CodySafe window, you have your installed applications ready to launch, and folders for your documents, music and pictures etc. It’s a really handy tool to stick on a pen drive, as the interface is much more user friendly than an open folder window.

CodySafe will recognize any portable applications you already have installed. On the Codyssey website there are a few portable applications to add to your collection, but there are many more elsewhere. This Firefox extension, as its name states, redesigns Google apps completely. The change doesn’t affect all of the Google services, but just the most popular ones: Gmail, Reader and Calendar. The new Google look & feel is all coded in CSS, which means it doesn’t affect any of the internal functionality. Also, getting rid of it is as easy as uninstalling the extension.

Google Redesigned is a dark, sleek style that gives your browser a very elegant interface – especially in the case of Gmail, which looks gorgeous. Dark tones are used in combination with shiny color codes that help you organize mails, feeds and dates respectively.

On the downside, if you don’t like dark themes in general, you won’t like Google Redesigned either: this is the only style available so far.

Glum Buster-Eerie indie platform game

If you’re looking for an ethereal gaming experience, give Glum Buster a go. It’s a very odd platform game that comes with very little explanation, forcing you to experiment to get through the game.

It’s very difficult to describe what’s going on. The game starts on a rainy street, and your shadow suddenly turns to flame, revealing a door that takes you to another world. Why, or for what reason, is unclear!

The graphic style is striking, and the mouse and keyboard control works well as you interact with the environment to aid your progress through the various levels. If you enjoy a challenge, Glum Buster will suit you, but some people might find all the mystery a turn off - if you get stuck, there’s nothing you can do!

The game is not hard in terms of skill, it’s more puzzle based, and getting through some of them will no doubt take some time. You’ll need your thinking cap, and a great deal of patience, but it’s rewarding in the end.

Glum Buster is a truly strange platform game, but for anyone looking for something a bit different, it should hit the spot.

MAGIX Ringtone Maker 3-Make your own ringtones out of any media

MAGIX Ringtone Maker lets you add some spice to your mobile device by creating your own ringtones and animated pictures. The program is extremely friendly to use. The interface itself is clearly divided in sections to select your media, edit the ringtone and export it. A help guide is easily accessible from the bottom right of the interface and tutorials for specific actions from the menu bar. We were impressed with the advanced editing tools on hand to add effects like distortion, filters or delay. Similarly, the equalizer was very effective at adjusting sounds. If you want to add extra elements, you can also access the extensive Catooh online library from the menu bar. MAGIX Ringtone Maker features a “simulate ringtone” button, quite useful to test your creation before exporting it.

We were also well impressed with the export function. The application provides a list of many mobile manufacturers and models to allow you to export to the format which most corresponds to your device.

Overall, the structure of the interface feels great, especially the timeline view, which really makes it easy to edit your media. We did feel however that some elements, like the media selection part at the top, felt a little bit crowded. It’s a shame that you can’t resize the interface window. Similarly, the installation process was a bit lengthy.

On the whole though, MAGIX Ringtone Maker is a great application to create and add media to your mobile device, providing a very accessible interface and loads of advanced editing tools.

Firefox Showcase 0.9.5-Show all your tabs in a single window

Tabs are one of the best things to happen to Internet browsing in a long time, but there are now ways to make them even more useful.

One of them is the Firefox plug-in Firefox Showcase, which presents a new way to manage your Firefox tabs and windows by showing them as thumbnails in a single window, tab or sidebar. Rather than just clicking on your tabs to see what you’ve got open (particularly fruitless if you’ve got multiple tabs open and can’t read the tab headings anymore), it gives you a way of seeing instantly, what you have open.

The plug-in includes a search bar that filters the thumbnails according to topic. So if you’ve got five tabs open on football, search for “football” and it will reveal instantly which tabs relate to that topic. Probably the most useful aspect of Firefox Showcase is the sidebar - rather than having tabs open, you can have each window open in a small thumbnail down the side of your screen which makes it much easier to see what you’ve got open.

However, the problem with this is that by displaying every page that you’ve got open, even as thumbnails, it does tend to vastly increase the load Firefox puts on your RAM so you may experience some instability issues. However, to decrease this risk you can run Firefox Showcase in “local” mode, which only displays the thumbnails for your current Firefox window as oppose to “global” which displays thumbnails for all those open Firefox windows.

Firefox Showcase is a radical new alternative to relying on tabs that makes it considerably easier to see what you’ve got open - just keep the amount of tabs you have open to a minimum.
